Supporting our Parish

EASY FUNDRAISING: Easy fundraising is a platform that allows people to raise money for a noble cause, such as a charity/church/school. It is by doing your online shopping. When someone shops through the easyfundraising website or app, the retailer donates a percentage of the sale price to the shopper’s chosen cause without any additional cost to the shopper. As mentioned, it doesn’t cost the buyer any additional burden and the advantage is that it will raise some fund for the parish.

Children’s liturgy in St Peter’s begins this weekend, Sunday, 5th October during the 10am mass at a new place, beside the sanctuary. The place has been refurnished to suit children’s dream of having a beautiful place for the liturgy. It is convenient for parents to drop off their children at the room before
the mass. I earnestly request the parents to send their children for this important faith formation and to help create interest in them for the mass.

The month of October is Mission month and Rosary, dedicated in a special way to promoting and supporting the Church’s missionary work, as mission and evangelisation are at the very heart of the Church’s identity and purpose. Throughout this month the Holy Father urges the whole People of God to pray for the Church in mission countries, especially where the Church is small, poor, or newly established. In this month dedicated to the holy rosary, we ponder with Mary the mysteries of our salvation, and we ask the Lord to help us to be proclaimers of the Gospel by his word and by his life. Let us commit ourselves to saying the rosary with faith for peace in our families, in countries, and in the whole world. Being a month of devotion, both parishes will have adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and rosary on alternative Sunday afternoon. Come and pray. Please note the schedule: St Fergus: Sunday 12th and Sunday 26th at 12.30pm. St Peter’s: Sunday 19th at 3.00pm.
St Peter’s Church is organising a Curry Night in the Church hall on the evening of 24th Oct to socialise, enjoy, and strengthen the bond of friendship. The tickets and flyers are available at the back of the Church. Tickets will cost £12 per person, which will include a three-course meal and a glass of wine/beer.
After that it will be BYOB. There will also be a free musical programme on the night. Please come along and join us in what will be a very enjoyable evening and hopefully will be an opportunity to socialise with other parishioners and others, and create lasting memories. Proceeds from the event will go to aid the ongoing pastoral and material works of the parish. Looking forward to see as many as possible on the night.
MISSION SUNDAY (from Missio Scotland): Next Sunday is World Mission Sunday when we are called by Pope Leo to be “Missionaries of Hope”. We can do
this by being part of the Church’s missionary efforts, supporting missionary priests, religious sisters and brothers, and lay catechists who provide hope to those most in need. Let us pray for the Church’s missionary work and offer our financial support through Missio Scotland for our Catholic brothers and sisters in mission countries.
MISSION MONTH AND DAY OF PRAYER FOR PEACE IN THE HOLY LAND: The month of October is also the Mission month. This month is dedicated in a
special way to promoting and supporting the Church’s missionary work as mission and evangelisation are at the very heart of the Church’s ANNUAL SAFEGUARDING ANNOUNCEMENT: This year’s annual safeguarding announcement is read out at all masses this weekend to coincide with the Feast of the
Guardian Angels. OCTOBER: MONTH OF ROSARY: In this month of October, dedicated to the holy rosary, we ponder with Mary the mysteries of our salvation, and we ask the Lord to help us to be proclaimers of the Gospel by his word and by his life. Let us commit ourselves to saying the rosary with faith for peace in our families, in countries, and in the whole world. Being a month of devotion, both parishes will have adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and rosary on alternative Sunday afternoon. Come and pray. Please note the schedule: St Peter’s: Sunday 5th and Sunday 19th at 3.00pm. St Fergus: Sunday 12th and Sunday 26th at 12.30pm. identity and purpose. Throughout this month the Holy Father urges the whole People of God to pray for the Church in
mission countries, especially where the Church is small, poor, or newly established. In keeping with the need of the time to pray for peace, the Bishops of
Scotland invite all Catholics to keep Tuesday 7th October, the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary as a day of prayer for peace. Our world today is troubled by so
many wars and conflicts; it is appropriate that we as Catholics pray individually and together on this day for the Holy Land, Gaza and Israel. Our both parishes will be open for anyone who wishes to visit the Lord Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament for a moment of prayer and to light a candle. St Fergus Church, Ferguslie will be open from 9.30am to 12 noon and St Peter’s Church, Glenburn from 10am to 4.00pm.
SPRED VOLUNTEER DRIVERS NEEDED – to assist with bringing learning disabled friends to their Spred group on either a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday
evening taking them to/from the Centre at St Peter’s Church, Glenburn, once a fortnight, term time only. If anyone is interested please call 0141 884 8866 or email spred@rcdop.org.uk
CHURCH ROOF REPAIRS: A fortnight ago the remaining church repairs of St Peter’s were done. These include fixing of new tile vents, repairs around entrance and toilet area, repairs of chimney area above the sanctuary, flat roof above the sacristy and cleaning of roof gutters. The total cost for all these repairs is £6610.00. All these works had been done because of your generous contribution. Thanks to all for your generosity. May God bless you all.
P7 PARENTS MEETING: The sacramental preparation meeting of parents of P7 children of St Peter’s school is on Tuesday 23rd at 7pm in the parish hall.
40 HOUR ADORATION: The annual adoration starts this week. As informed earlier, St Fergus will have it on Sunday 7th after the morning mass and continue until 7.00pm. In St Peter’s, it will be from Monday 8 through Thursday 11, from 8am to 7pm and concludes with mass. Longer period of time will enable those who go for work to spend some time in prayer either before or after their work. A sign-up sheet of hourly slot is available at the back of the Church.
Please be generous with your time to encourage and spread this devotion. Carlo Acutis, often referred to as the “first millennial saint” who will be canonized as a saint on Sunday 7th spent a lot of his time in spreading devotion to the Eucharist. Adoration is a special devotion to express our personal commitment to Jesus and experience his love for us. St Peter’s school children will be joining us
class by class for adoration during class
hours.
The quiz night was well attended and enjoyed by all. Thanks to the organizers and the participants. The quiz night raised £562.00,

GENEROUS HELP: Words aren’t enough to thank and appreciate all those who made the parish sponsored walk a huge success. Besides those who took part in the walk, many parishioners and well-wishers came forward to contribute generously towards our noble cause. Some of our walkers/parishioners reached out to their friends and colleagues to raise funds. It was good news to know that some of them raised more than £100 pounds each for the
walk. It is like the parable of the Talents in the Bible (Mathew 25), where one who was given five talents made another five and one who got two talents made two more. Special thanks to them. I sincerely appreciate your hard work, commitment and love for your parish church. ( £3230.00) . Once again congratulations and thanks to all of our parishioners and well-wishers.

the Eucharist is exposed. During those days, in St Peter’s Adoration will begin at 8am and concludes with mass, starts at 7pm. Longer period of time will enable those who go for work to spend some time in prayer either before their work or after the work. A sign-up sheet of hourly slot is available at the back of the Church. Please be generous with your time to encourage and spread this devotion.

As stated previously in the bulletin, there will be a Quiz Night on Friday 29th August at 7.30 in the Church Hall. Admission will be £2.00 for adults, payable on the night and there will be no charge for children. Please bring your own drinks and snacks. appreciated.

“HABEMUS PAPAM” meaning “WE HAVE A POPE,” LEO XIV: Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost has been elected as the 267th pope of the Catholic Church, taking the name Pope Leo XIV. White smoke rose from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel just after 6:00 p.m. Rome time on Thursday, signalling that the College of Cardinals had chosen a successor to Pope Francis, who died on April 21. Thousands gathered in St. Peter’s Square erupted in cheers as the bells of the basilica began to toll, confirming the election of a new pontiff. The crowds gathered as word spread throughout Rome that a new pope had been chosen. The new pontiff appeared on the central balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica at approximately 7:25 p.m. local time, where Cardinal Dominique Mamberti, the protodeacon of the College of Cardinals and prefect of the Apostolic Signatura, announced in Latin: “Annuntiovobis gaudium magnum: Habemus Papam!” (“I announce to you a great joy: We have a pope!”) Before appearing on the balcony, the newly elected Pope Leo XIV spent time in the “Room of Tears,” also called the ‘Crying Room,’ is a small foyer within the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City. This traditionally named room is where new pontiffs first don the papal vest ments and have a moment of private prayer and reflection as they absorb the magnitude of their election to the Chair of St. Peter. Following the announcement, Leo XIV addressed the crowds gathered in St. Peter’s Square and those watching around the world, offering his first blessing “urbi et orbi” (to the city and the world) as the new Roman pontiff. Prevost, 69, was born on Sept. 14, 1955, in Chicago. He is of Italian, French, and Spanish de scent. He studied at an Augustinian minor seminary in Michigan and later earned a bachelor of science degree in mathematics. He entered the Order of St. Augustine in 1978. He was or dained to the priesthood in June 1982. He earned a doctorate in canon law from Rome’s Pontifical College of St. Thomas Aquinas in 1987. He returned to Chicago in 1987 and serving as pastor for vocations and director of missions for the Midwest Augustinians. He was then sent to Peru, where he served the Augustinians in various capacities including as a regional ecclesiastical judge and teacher of canon law in the diocesan seminary for Trujillo, Peru, for 10 years. He returned to the U.S. in 1999 when he was elected the head of the Augustinian Province of Chicago. He was elected prior general of the Augustinian order in 2001 and continued to serve as its head until 2013. Pope Francis appointed him as apostolic administrator of Chiclayo, Peru, in 2014. While serving the Church in Peru, Pope made him a member of the Dicastery for the Clergy in 2019 and then a member of the Dicastery for Bishops in 2020. In 2023, Pope made Prevost prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops and then made him a cardinal in a Sept. 30, 2023. Pope Leo XIV, in his first public words as pope, said: “May peace be with all of you.” He then added: “Together, we must try to find out how to be a missionary church, a church that builds bridges, establishes dialogues…. Pope Leo then said: “Let us pray together for this new mission, for the whole church……And for peace throughout the world. And let’s ask for this special grace from Mary, our mother.”

Death of Pope Francis 1936-2025.
Pope Francis, who led the Catholic Church for nearly 13 years died at age 88. Name: Jorge Mario Bergoglio. Born on December 17, 1936, in Buenos
Aires, Argentina, the son of Italian immigrants. Entered the Society of Jesus in 1958. Ordained a priest in 1969. Appointed Archbishop of Buenos Aires in
1998. A cardinal by Pope John Paul II in 2001. Elected pope on March 13, 2013. Became the 266th pope of the Roman Catholic Church. Succeeded
Pope Benedict XVI. Became the first Jesuit pope, the first pope from the Americas. The first to take the name “Francis,” inspired by St. Francis of Assisi, a symbol of peace, poverty, and care for creation. Died on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025. Known for his humility and deep concern for the poor. Pope Francis led the Church through more than a decade facing a lot of challenges and making bold reforms. He championed a Church “of the poor and for the poor.” He reached out to the peripheries of both society and the Church. He was a global voice for migrants, the marginalized, and the environment. He wrote landmark encyclicals like Laudato Si’ and Fratelli Tutti. Cardinal Kevin Farrell, camerlengo of the Holy Roman church, said that Pope Francis entire life was dedicated to the service of God and his Church. He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with fidelity, courage, and universal love, especially for the poorest and most marginalized.’ His 12-year pontificate was characterized by a focus on mercy, care for creation, and attention to what he called the “peripheries” of both the Church and society. During his tenure, Pope Francis canonized 942 saints — more than any other pope in history — including his predecessors John XXIII, Paul VI, and John Paul II. He published four encyclicals and seven apostolic exhortations while promulgating 75 motuproprio documents. Throughout his papacy, Francis significantly reshaped the College of Cardinals through 10 consistories, creating 163 new cardinals. His appointments reflected his vision of a global Church, elevating prelates from the peripheries and creating cardinals in places that had never before had one, including Mongolia and South Sudan. His papacy faced unprecedented challenges, including the global COVID-19 pandemic, during which he offered historic moments of prayer for humanity, notably the extraordinary urbi et orbi blessing in an empty St. Peter’s Square in March 2020. He also repeatedly called for peace amid conflicts in Ukraine and the Holy Land. Pope Francis convoked four synods, including the Synod on Synodality, whose second session concluded in October 2024. He implemented significant reforms of the Roman Curia and took several steps to address the clergy abuse crisis, including the 2019 motu proprio Vos Estis Lux Mundi (CNA,21/4/2025) Pope Francis, spoke of the Church as mother in
these words: “And so the Church was a Mother, the Mother of more children, of many children. It be came more and more of a Mother. A Mother who
gives us the faith. A Mother who gives us an identity. But the Christian identity is not an identity card: Christian identity is belonging to the Church,
because all of these belonged to the Church, the Mother Church.” Dear Brothers and Sisters…would like to speak of the Church as God’s family.
Like the merciful father in the parable of the prodigal son, God wants all of us to live in his love and to share in his life. The Church is an essential part
of this divine plan; we were made to know and love God and, despite our sins, he continues to call us to return to him. On the 2013 feast of the Holy Family, Pope Francis said: Let us remember the three key words for living in peace and joy in the family: ‘may I,’ ‘thank you’ and ‘sorry.’ In our family, when we are not intrusive and ask ‘may I,’ in our family when we are not selfish and learn to say ‘thank you,’ and when in a family one realizes he has done something wrong and knows how to say ‘sorry,’ in that family there is peace and joy. Let us remember these three words.” Combating gossip was a popular theme throughout his pontificate. “It’s so rotten, gossip. At the beginning, it seems to be something enjoyable and fun, like a piece of candy. But at the end, it fills the heart with bitterness and also poisons us,” Pope Francis said Feb. 16, 2014. “I tell you the truth,” hetold the faithful in St. Peter’s Square. “I am convinced that if each one of us would purposely avoid gossip, at the end, we would become a saint! It’s a beautiful path.” O God, faithful rewarder of souls, grant that your departed servant Pope Francis whom you made successor of Peter and shepherd of your Church to lead us from the front may happily enjoy forever in your presence in heaven the mysteries of your grace and compassion which he faithfully ministered on earth. Through Christ our Lord Amen.

Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday

St. Peter's Mini Vinnies Team on Easter Sunday

13 April 2025
Holy Week.
The Holy season of Lent is a journey of renewal and hope that ends with its final destination being Holy Week, leading to Easter. This season is specially marked by prayer, reflection, fasting, penance, charity etc. by Christians around the world. Within this season we have a special week that is called the Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday and culminates in the joyous celebration of Easter Sunday. Palm Sunday has the ‘passion narratives’ relating to the suffering, (passio in Latin), death and burial of Jesus Christ. Each day of Holy Week holds significant religious meaning and commemorates the final days of Jesus Christ’s earthly ministry from his triumphant entry into Jerusalem to his resurrection. The institution of the Holy Eucharist on Maundy Thursday, the sacrificial death of Jesus on Good Friday and triumphant resurrection on Easter Sunday are the other three most important days within the Holy Week. Through the events of above-mentioned days, we remember the central tenets of our faith: Jesus’ sacrificial love, the forgiveness of sins, and the hope of eternal life. So, it is a time to reflect deeply on the core tenets of our faith. By Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, God has brought redemption to humanity by bridging the gap between man and God. In the words of St Paul, ‘God shows his love for us that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us … more than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation (Rom 5: 8, 11). Easter Sunday, the pinnacle of Holy Week, celebrates the miraculous resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. This period, therefore, for Christians, is the most sacred time not actually meant for holidays but observing it as holydays.
